Airmic is welcoming applications for the role of CEO, the association has announced. John Hurrell, who has been chief executive of Airmic for nine years, announced this week his decision to step down from the post. He will continue as CEO until his successor is appointed.
The succession process will be led by a small panel consisting of the next two Airmic chairmen, Paul Goulding and Lynda Lucas, and long-standing board member and honorary secretary Nick Hughes.
Paul Goulding said it is a hugely influential role and they are anticipating interest from people of the highest calibre. "The CEO of Airmic has the privileged position of representing some of the finest risk and insurance professionals who collectively have oversight of over £6bn of insurance spend and help to manage the risks of the largest and most successful businesses in the country," he said.
The new CEO will take over during a time of rapid change for businesses and the risk community, with new and emerging risks, changing business models as a result of digital and technological disruption, and new regulations in risk governance. There are further challenges in the insurance market with the implementation of the new insurance contract law and the market's need to maintain relevance for future risks.
Goulding commented, "These are exciting times for Airmic, with big challenges – but even bigger opportunities – facing our members. Airmic's leadership must not only anticipate these trends but be a part of the change process itself, working with influential bodies in business and in corporate governance."
The new CEO will work with a small but dedicated secretariat, a board of directors taken from the Airmic membership and a network of partners and sponsors across the wider industry. As well as representing the risk community, the CEO must drive Airmic's training and technical programmes and plan and promote the biggest risk management conference in the UK.
Goulding said the post will appeal to anyone who truly wants to have a positive influence. He noted that over the past decade, Airmic has been heavily involved in bringing about the Insurance Act and Enterprise Act, as well as publishing ground-breaking research through the Roads to Ruin and Roads to Resilience reports which have influenced business, government and academic thinking.
Goulding added, "We are looking for a natural leader and someone that really wants to make a difference. If you think that is you, we encourage you to get in contact – this is the best job in the business!"
