Airmic to hold Enterprise Risk Management Forum in November

Airmic is to hold an ERM Forum in London on 10th November – the first large event it has organised fucussed purely on risk issues. It will be open to all members who will be able to attend free of charge.

The Forum will cover three broad areas: Strategy, Enterprise and Innovation. Strategy will give more senior risk managers or those in more mature organisations guidance on taking risk management to the next level. Enterprise will cover subjects at the heart of risk management. Innovation sessions on new technologies, threats and ways of working will give education on the changing environment for businesses.

There will also be case studies of companies across various industries that have put effective risk management into action, giving practical advice on embedding best practices.

Although speakers have yet to be announced, the day will start with an address from a business leader. There will be a series of breakout sessions on different subjects, with each workshop reporting back to the Forum as a whole.

Despite the ERM focus, Airmic believes it will be of wide interest to members, including those with insurance responsibilities. “As we move into an increasingly connected world, risk managers of all types will require a broad skillset and awareness,” said technical director Julia Graham.

The decision to hold an ERM Forum reflects Airmic’s view that risk management needs to become better defined within organisations as well as higher-profile. The association is seen as the obvious vehicle for increasing awareness of risk issues, albeit in co-operation with other organisations. Graham and Chief Executive John Hurrell have been involved in a number of discussions about risk with business leaders, including chairs of FTSE 100 companies, and the Forum will provide an opportunity for them to feed back to the wider community.

The 150 spaces at the Forum are likely to be over-subscribed, with Airmic members getting advance warning once the programme has been firmed up and places become available. There will also be a small exhibition area.
