From time to time the Airmic Board elect an Honorary Vice-President from the membership of the association, as a special acknowledgement of service to the profession and to Airmic.
Since Airmic’s creation sixty years ago in 1963 only nine people have been awarded the honour, noted Airmic’s chair Angela Iannetta, speaking at the Airmic Annual Dinner 2023.
The first Airmic Vice President award was made to Glyn Hughes in 1967.
“The need to bring together professionals and give them a voice is as valid today as it was in 1963,” Angela said. “The willingness of Airmic members to give up their time to lead the association and to support its activities is also as strong today as it was then.”
She then invited Nick Hughes to the stage, to become the tenth person honoured in this way.
“Many of you will know Nick Hughes, retired Partner of the law firm HFW Aerospace team, and Airmic Company Secretary since 1992,” Angela said.
“Nick is a Court Member and past Master of the Worshipful Company of Solicitors, a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Insurers, a past President of the City of London Law Society – and son of Glyn,” she continued.
Angela also paid tribute to Nick’s qualities and his many years of service to Airmic.
“Nick, professionalism involves being reliable, setting high standards, and showing that you care about every aspect of your role,” she said.
“This sums up your work and relationship with Airmic over the past thirty years perfectly,” Airmic’s chair added.
On behalf of Airmic, the leadership team and the membership, we would like to thank Nick for his hard work and service to the association.
